If I told you there was a simple, daily pill that had no side effects and could help you lose weight and keep it off, would you take it? If instead I said there was a simple 15-minute exercise you could do—while seated—that would guarantee a longer life, would you do it?
Unfortunately, I have no pill or physical exercise plan to offer you. What I have, though, is even better: a plan to help you grow spiritually, one day at a time. I call it the “60 Day New Testament Journey.”
For the next 60 days (every Sunday is a day of “rest”), I will be “tweeting” (@PastorRickACC) and posting to Facebook a little devotional prompt to get you started. Then you are to read the day’s Scripture selection, which are usually less than 4 pages long (in most Bibles). It’s simple, it’s easy, and it’s something you can do!
The Bible describes itself as “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12). In today’s lingo, that means the Bible “has its own power source and is self-installing.” Just read the selections every day for the next 10 weeks, and you will be amazed at the power, insight, and transformation that will happen in your life. The New Testament, for skeptics or new believers, will begin to make sense; for not-so-new believers, its power will be unleashed in your life in new and dynamic ways.
In order to help you on this journey, I strongly suggest you enlist a friend to be your 60-day journey partner. (Or even a group of friends. Set up you own Facebook group, your own chat room, or even start a small group. Just don’t do this alone!) A quick voicemail or text-message each day to your partner will keep you accountable, and will be an easy way to share quick insights. Each day send a simple text or voicemail such as “I did it and my main insight today was…”
What do you have to lose?
